Hi there
i have felt wat u are feeling now and am recovering medication free all the way..but one way i try to deal with late night ones is increasing sugar intake..remember that if u drop ur shoulders and breathe slow a panic attack is less likely..and a panic attack wont kill you or harm u in anyway its ur body releasing adrealine at the wrong time..i have agoraphobia and used to wake up in panic but after taking note of what was changing in my days and adding or removing certain things i found a great balance and have returned to work after 13yrs and never once used any medication…
and yes you can live a normal life..sounds to good to be true but i always thought this is how my life will be for good…but with good management it can be done but you really have to want it and put in the hard work….i really hope this helps and i wish u luck

You poor thing.. that's exactly how I was when I was 14. Panic attacks, insomnia, fear of death.. it's not pleasant. But you aren't alone, hun. They put me on a million medications, none of them worked except for Lexapro. It took a week or two, but I noticed a drastic change in my personality and my ability to sleep and function normally. Lexapro may not be right for you, but the medications you listed aren't entirely effective for everyone.. it's sucky, but you might just have to try a bunch of different ones. While I was testing, I eased the attacks with aromatherapy (insense and junk like that), it helped me calm down and made me mellow. When I was actually having an attack, laying down and closing my eyes under a fan always helped; it cools you down and the position helps keep you from hyperventilating. The fear of dying issue is a tough one.. the only way I ever found to deal with it was to ignore it by doing something else. It got to the point where I couldn't NOT think about it, even when I was doing something else. You just need to sit back and try to understand what exactly your fear is based off of.. mine was a range of things, but coming to terms with it is a very personal issue. My therapist didn't help with that.. it just took time and patience to understand why I was so afraid of it. I'm not anymore though! You'll be fine hun. Panic attacks are very common, these feelings you're having come and go in everyone.. it's just part of growing up I guess. Take care!

I get them terribly at night also. they put me on xanax, but it doesn't seem to help, just knocks me out and makes me feel numb.
I've found the only thing that works is keeping myself busy..I"ve recently taken up sewing and has done wonders! It keeps my mind and my hands busy so I'm not thinking about the "what if's" and not focusing on being alone while my family is alseep (I'm a night owl and they are all in bed by 9pm)
you could try any sort of crafty thing, yoga, meditation..anything that keeps you busy. medication is not always the answer!! doctors sometimes don't give you other options thinking that everyone expects meds to help.

I can totally relate to what you are going through. I have been suffering with anxiety and panic attacks for many years. I too find that it can be worse at night. I feel it's because most of the time during the day I can distract my mind with other things, (even though there are times that I can't and I have a breakdown), but when it comes to going to bed my mind starts to focus on what I've been able to suppress during the day because there is nothing to distract me. What I do most of the time is fall asleep out in the living room while my husband is watching tv. When it's time to go to bed he wakes me up and most of the time I'm able to get into bed and go right back to sleep without any problems. If I do find my mind starting to think about things that will bring on a panic attack I just close my eyes and keep telling myself how tired I am. Is there a way you can do something like that? Try to fall asleep with a tv on or maybe some music to try to distract your mind?
I also have Ativan (Lorazepam) when it gets really bad. I'm not sure if your familiar with that medication, but I like it because it's not something that I have to take every day to be effective. When I feel a panic attack coming on I can take one and within 15-20 minutes I am feeling better.
I hope this helps

Ah, how I can relate to you hun. I suffer from pretty bad agoraphobia, which is a cousin of anxiety issues. Even the smallest thing can set off a panic attack, the best thing I found for me was to drink some water, lay in bed and rest on my bed, concentrating on how comfortable my pillow is. If you are super scared, keep a phone by you just for comfort factors, you probably won't need to call anyone eventually trust me : ).
Also, may I recommend a book, that simply reading random chapters makes me feel THOUSANDS of times better. I carry it with me when I travel so that if I panic, I can find a quiet place and read it.
Peace From Nervous Suffering by Dr. Claire Weeks
I think you might really enjoy it. If you want to contact me, my email is RoyalAbidi@hotmail.com, same for MSN, and my AIM is RoyalAbidi (go figure). Wish the best for you, I'll link the book if you're interested below.
EDIT: OH, just something maybe to help for the moment, taken basically from the book I linked you: Those feelings you get are normal. They are a normal human body reaction to fear, and you are OK. If you are super worried, have a physician check you out, to make sure you are alright physically, but 9/10 times you are. Don't let every new sensation scare you. The faint feeling is because when you panic you use adrenaline, and your liver hasn't had time to recover a certain chemical in your body that makes your legs not shaky, etc. Trust me, you'll be ok. : )

PANIC ATTACKS: Have you seen the techniques for control of panic attacks, in section 8, at http://www.ezy-build.net/. (.net.nz/~shaneris) [Type, and enter the following URL, in the usual manner: h t t p : / / w w w . e z y - b u i l d . n e t . n z / ~ s h a n e r i s ]? Begin by holding your breath for 5, or 10 seconds: this will give you the confidence to realise that YOU CAN CONTROL YOUR BREATHING, but not pass out, or die (your autonomic nervous system resumes breathing, if unconscious). Understand panic attacks, and what triggers them, in your life (if it is unresolved anxiety, see section 6). The paper bag method works for most people: have you tried it? If you are fairly suggestible, the following are reliable, and reasonably priced:

Your last alternative is psychotherapy, to address its fundamental cause: read section 1, and examine the 1-800-therapist website, and use the locators, and phone book. I used to suffer from panic attacks, until I questioned what had changed recently in my life, to trigger them? I suggest that you learn, then practise the controlled breathing technique, until competent, then employ it, at the very first sign of a panic attack.

I take Paxil and it works well for me. I used to get really bad anxiety when I was ready for bed. There's no chores or t.v. to fill your mind, so it's you, your brain, and your fears. Sounds like ya need a different med, absolutely. And the fear of dying or thoughts of death just go along with the mood disorder. Go tell your doc, okay. There's lots of other meds to try. One will work well for you, don't worry. I had to try a half a dozen to get the correct results. Now, I look forward to night night!

I have always dealt with anxiety in the form of just being tense and worried over things that most wouldn't necessarily dwell on or be nervous and worried about. However, about a week ago I tried to quit smoking and that was it for me, I had a full blown anxiety attack. At first I thought that it was just withdrawals from not smoking but the feeling of my heart racing, nervousness, insominia and restlessness were unbareable. I began smoking again but now those feelings stay with me on a daily basis. I have been to the doctor a few days ago and they prescribed me lexapro and xanax. The xanax helps to a degree but I still worry about what's going to happen when it wears off and if I will ever feel any sort of normalcy again. As for the lexapro, I have seen that worked well with some, but for me, I took it one night and it freaked me out. I had a panic attack from it on top of severe nausea to the point that I was gagging a lot. Many say to give it a chance because it may need time to build within the body but if it's going to make me feel worse then I did, I see no point in continuing it and moving on to something else. You may need to do so as well until you find something that helps you. I am trying to learn how to control my breathing but it hasn't really helped but I suppose practice makes perfect. I also hear that exercise is suppose to help which, is something that I am planning to try today and on forward. Good luck to you and hopefully you will be able to find some sort of peace of mind in knowing there are options to make you feel better and that you aren't alone in dealing with this horrible bout of anxiety. Take care : )

This is my answer: Do not eat anything for at least 3 hrs. prior to going to sleep. Do not exercise and most all do not watch any TV of any kind or be on computer after 6pm.
Then one hour before going to sleep take one of 1 capsule of Tranquilnite plus. This is a all natural sleep aid from New Chapter. Its called a dietary supplement, you can research this product yourself at http://www.newchapter.com
I have this same problem and can pretty much get relief when I follow this regime. It helps. Hope it offers you some relief.
If you are on other medications than you need to check with your pharmicist and or medical doctor first.
