Am I having panic attacks? What causes them? What can I do to get rid of them?
Several times today, and some times in the past, I have had weird dizzy spells that I believe to be panic attacks. They last for about half a minute, with an increased heart rate that lasts for ten to fifteen minutes. During the attacks, I have what can only be described as a sense of impending doom. It is also accompanied with very strong nausea, but no vomiting. Once, it even felt like my body temperature went up a lot, but only for the duration of the attack. I have had no symptoms outside of these attacks. If this sounds like a panic attack, what causes them? Is there any (preferably medicine-free) way to cure them?
Panic attacks are episodes of intense fear with unpleasant physical symptoms that usually occur without any outside threat being present. You may be short of breath or breathe rapidly (hyperventilate) and suffer from sweating, dizziness, nausea, numbness, chest pains, or palpitations. Attacks may be linked to anxiety, stress, depression, a phobia (such as fear of flying), or to taking stimulants or drugs, but symptoms can develop for no apparent reason. Although the attacks usually pass quickly, fear of having them can interfere with normal life. The following steps help to calm yourself quickly and also you cope with future attacks: 1. If you are hyperventilating, try rebreathing into a bag. 2. Try not to avoid situations in which you are prone to attack.
