I will be flying up to see my mother who i have not seen in 10 years due to my fear of flying and panic attacks. However I have decided enough is enough with this fear and if I am to get over it I just have to do and get it over. If the anxiety and panic attacks aren’t enough my 15 month old is flying with me. She doesn’t sit still at home for 2 seconds and barely lets me hold her anymore because she’s so independent. I’m worried about having a panic attack and then I have her to worry about. If you have ever had a panic attack you know that you can’t handle anything else when it happens and all you can think about is getting out of the situation. I’m not scared of the noises or turbulence it’s the being confined and if i freak out i can’t just say stop and let me off. Also the fact that I know I’m way up in the sky. I just don’t know how I’m going to get through this and at the same time deal with my daughter and keep her entertained because she doesn’t like to be confined either and she can’t run around the plane. Any good advice or has anyone done this same thing? And with having a toddler I can’t take anything for nerves i don’t want to be all doped up.
Panic: There are medications specifically for anxious flyers. You can be mildly sedated or a wreck screaming next to your screaming child. Totally up to you Toddler: One of you is the parent and one is the child. Figure out which is which. I just flew 13 hours with a mother with two 2-year old daughters who spent the whole time repeating, “Stop screaming or you’ll get a spanking. Sit down. Stop screaming.” No spanking in 13 hours. They didn’t stop screaming either. If that mother can’t manage a 2 year old she will have a VERY interesting time when they are teenagers…
