Today, I got evaluated for my anxiety problem, I'm taking zoloft, and yeah, I don't really know how to deal w/ it, I cut myself, my wrist, when I want to relieve my anxiety, that does it, but you shouldn't, you should give your son a kiss on the forehead, and think that he needs his mom, if you love him, be strong, if you want him to have a good future, and to keep him out of trouble, do it for him, if you wanna talk to me, just email me, and tell me bout your problem, I bet I can help since I suffer from anxiety myself!

I haven't but my husband did, and it was a nightmare. And its so hard to understand it if you have not suffered with it. But we studied up on it and found for him the Lamaze breathing worked, he got off paxil and was able to take charge again. Good luck to you, oh, we also got a work book on panic attacks at Barnes and Noble it was a super help.

Man, not anymore. But I used to!! I was in the emergency room the first time because I thought it was a heart attack! I tried meds, but they only help the symptoms. If you REALLY want them to go away, you have to figure out what's got you so freaked out. Something is bugging you mentally and you're ignoring it – so it's finding a valve…and the anxiety attacks are the valve. You're like a pressure cooker. The pressure builds…the steam comes out.
So. There's also another answer – you have to start learning the symptoms so you know when the anxiety attack is gearing up.
I tried all sorts of stuff, but the thing that worked was that I would learn to tell when it was starting – there were signs. As soon as I noticed it, I would find a way to distract myself. Call someone . Do stretching exercises. Take a bubble bath. You'll have to figure out what works, but you can do it – I did! And I haven't had to take a pill in YEARS. In fact, once I figured out how to tell when they were starting, that was the first step to beating it. Eventually it just stopped.

Paxil now is being blamed 4 numerous things, maybe u should see ur doctor 4 a differnt kind of medication. It may help u cope with the attacks. hope u get better, because u deserve it,and so does ur child he/she needs u to.

YES YES YES!
I take Paxil as well. I have been on it for three years, and tommorrw I will begin to wean off. I started having debilitating panic attacks after my second child was born, (in the car), suffered a stroke, and is now hearing impaired. I had them so frequently, and they were so horrendous, that I barely remember a clear moment during those months. I actually moved back in with my parents because my husband was staying at a children's hospital with our baby, (which was 300+ miles away), and I couldnt care for my other son, much less myself. So far, I have used Paxil to mask the attacks, but now that I have made the decision to wean off the paxil, I know that I need to find a better way to control them. you can email me at mamaofthesweetest4@yahoo.com, and I will let you know my progress, and any coping skills that I aquire. Good Luck,
You arent alone.

I used to have them regularly. I would first of all try to refrain from seeing a phychiatrist unless they are severely affecting your ability to function in life. Try a therapist first. I always reccommend trying to solve a problem without the use of pills.
I was prescribed Paxil, then wellbutarin, then zoloft. Sometimes they'd work, but cause other problems. Eventually I gave up on medications. You need to find out first of all what is primarily triggering your anxiety attacks. A therapist can help you with this. In my case, there was no particular trigger (which was frustrating).
Secondly, you will need to learn how to simply just deal with the attacks in a manner that will cause you the least inconvenience. (Such as not having to leave work, or be taken to the hospital.) One of the best solutions I've ever heard was to just go lie in bed, throw the covers over you, and just ride it out. Don't try to stop it.
Once you learn how to handle the attacks, you should move on to learning how to "deflect" the attacks. You'll basically associate the beggining of an attack with something else. Example: You start to feel nervous… you know an attack is coming. Suddenly, you make yourself start thinking about what your plans are for the day, or the next day, or week. Think about errands you have to run, or bills that need to be paid, or Christmas gifts, or anything that'll keep your mind busy. The more you practice this, the more you'll actually be able to stop an attack before it even starts.
After a month or two of this, you'll feel less and less attacks coming on, and you'll find yourself having to work much less at preventing attacks, as your mind will subdue them on its own. Eventually, hopefully, you just flat out won't have any more attacks.
One thing I will definately suggest in the meantime is walking. Walk or jog at least an hour day. The better you become physically, the better you will perform and feel mentally.
Also, running is great way to kill or ride out an anxiety attack. I'd reccommend running at home on a treadmill, as you generally feel "safer" at home than outside when you're having an attack. If you don't have a treadmill, just run vigorously in place.
I hope this helps. I know how much anxiety can really affect one's life. It's hellish. But always remember this and I know it'll make you feel better – THIS IS NOT PERMANENT. They'll go away someday. The more you work on what I've told you, the sooner it'll happen. It took me about 2 months to get the majority of the attacks to stop, then another month or two to actually feel like a normal person again.
Good luck!!!

I used to get extreme panic attacks and they would usually come under pressure. I used to work as a cook, and during high volume times, when people were literally yelling at me, I was inable to even speak properly my panic attacks were so intense. It was the equivalent of something literally squeezing your chest, as well as yourself having the most uncertain feeling you've ever had in your life. There were issues of verbal abuse when I was a child, and I believe my brain has found a way to make itself PANIC when it hears alarming signals such as loud noises or someone yelling. It can be a personal issue, but there is a host of things you can do in order to overcome your panic attacks without drugs.
My panic attacks are rooted in deep level uncertainty. Which means that I am deeply uncertain or scared within myself, and it will leak into the surface in demanding situations. I have learned how to bury this feeling with extreme anger, and rage attacks. Since I understand all of the things above, they do not even effect me. I NEVER fly into rages, and I never express my anger onto others, but it is stored inside.
You can develop self-condifence by doing things that you didnt know you could do, and martial arts, under the intstruction of a great teacher, can teach your mind to deal with demanding situations. You have to watch out for the millions of bad schools though. You need to learn how to express yourself, whether it is in devestating fasion on a punching bag, or art work, or what have you. Sometimes writing or drawing isnt enough, you need to EXERCISE. This will help tremendously, but becomming comfortable with yourself on a deeper level will ultimately rid yourself of this poison. Meditation and breathing, yoga.

yes I have had anxiety (panic attacks) for over 10 years now, with the use of xanax and relatation techniques I keep it under controll usually. when It forst started it was so bad they took me to the ER and thought for sure I was having a heart attack thats how severe it can become without meds. you have to talk thouroughly to your doc so you dont end up on anti depression meds if your not depressed and just plain meds for aniety they are not the same disorder not even close and the symptoms when a person rattles them off are very much similiar to a doc thats why you have to tell your doc very exact answers to questions and be blunt your self about how you are feeling. best of luck
