Your fear will probably never go away and it’s completely understandable why. I suggest, if you haven’t already, see your doctor before your trip to get a few pills to take the edge off for both your flights to and from. You’ll feel so much better, that’s what I did just last summer, the thought of flying fills me with instant anxiety. It’s a rotten feeling isn’t it! I’m sure your doctor will be more than happy to help:)….have a great trip:)

I’m no psychiatrist, but it sounds to me like you have a genuine phobia, and phobias don’t usually just go away by themselves. This is a real condition and you should seek help for it.
This source looked pretty good to me. Maybe you’ll find it useful:

Your fear may never really go away. I’m afraid of flying as well, and it’s lessened, but never really gone away. Plus it sounds as if your fear has been fueled by our government constantly on the lookout. But I wouldn’t be worried about terrorists on your overseas flight. So little is allowed on board since July and they check the luggage extremely carefully for overseas flights that you have nothing to worry about.
But if your fear is really overshadowing and causing you distress (as it sounds like it is), I am with the first person, and suggest you talk to your doctor about something to take the edge off, and maybe even something to knock you out. I’ve found just going to sleep is the best thing for me on planes.
But really, you have nothing to worry about. I was afraid something would happen on one of my flights yesterday, and I made it home safe and sound, and you will make it there and back in one piece, and have a ton of stories to tell. Hope it all works out for you, and I hope you have fun on your trip!
