Anxiety disorder and fear of flying?
I have been struggling with generalized anxiety disorder and panic attacks for just over a year now. I have been seeing a therapist for about 6 months now and I have been slowly getting better and making progress. I am still absolutely terrified of flying though. I went to the airport last year to pick someone up and had one of the worst panic attacks I have ever experienced. I even had to cancel a trip home last year b/c I was so scared. I have to do a 6 hour flight this November for a wedding. I am absolutely terrified and find that I am starting to get panic attacks at night thinking about it.
I thin I am most afraid of having a panic attack while in the air. Does anyone have any tips for me? Perhaps someone who also has anxiety disorder and a fear of flying might be able to help me. Thanks!
What I keep hearing from my psychologist is to practice yoga. Yoga that focuses of breathing can be helpful. Being able to apply the slow deep breathing of yoga in a panic attack is a skill worth having. It’s a bit of struggle to get. Just practice breathing like that more often.
Hope this helps.
