When you first start getting the feeling of an attack happening, quickly hold your breath. I know it will feel like you are killing yourself, but in a little while, you'll feel better and the attack will end. Good luck!

Breathe.. I have SEVERE ones all the time lately. All I can do is try to breathe and tell myself I'm okay and not gonna die. Also I call my dad and he helps me through them. I am so sick of them I'm going to go to a dr. adn therapist and maybe meds..but i hate meds. Maybe you should call or talk to someone who makes you feel better. Im sorry..I know how you fee. they are the worst things EVER.

hang in there! Best thing too know is it can't hurt you. Call a good friend or relative and begin to talk with them. Even though it feels like it will last forever, it won't. Soon you will calm down and then you will become pretty tranquil. If you are not seeking therapy, do so. I use deep breathing exercises to help me. Take comfort in the fact that you are not alone!

I was speaking to my friend on the weekend about her attacks and she uses the Buteki (sorry if not spelt correctly) method of breathing which is basically: In through the nose for 3 counts, hold for 3 counts, out through the mouth for 3 counts. Keep repeating this until the attack eases.
She also is on medication now as her attacks would leave her with no feeling from the waist down.

Distract yourself. What are your favorite things? Listen to your favorite up beat song and get up and dance, dance, dance. Sing to the song while you spin around and dance to the beat. This may release endorphins and help your mood change.

last year when my 16 year old son started having panic attacks the best thing for him was having me his mom there. so i guess a good support system. Do you have someone whos experienced this problem before. It runs in familys some times. I had them,my daughter,my mother,and my sister. None of us ever died yet even thou it feels like it. It does pass. the doctor put him on buspirone and he felt better whithin a couple days. Try slowly breathing in deeply thru your mouth then exhaling slowly thru your nose until you feel better. also get out your bible read the psalms and pray and ask God to watch over yu and to help you you can write to me if you need help. First, you need to control your breathing. You may not realize it, but you are hyperventilating. Breath very slowly in through your nose, and very slowly out through your mouth. Second, don't fight it. Fighting it only makes it worse. Just let it be there and KNOW that it will pass on its own in just a few minutes….and they ALWAYS do. Practice this every time one comes on. At first it will take some work (maybe five minutes worth) to bring the feeling of panic down. But in a very short period of time, a few days or a week or two, you will notice that the time from panic to feeling calm will only be a matter of minutes if not seconds. You need to condition yourself and it is fairly easy. The trick is consistancy and DON'T get discouraged.
For the long run, consider a good counselor if you haven't already. Panic attacks are only your bodies way of telling you that you have some unresolved issues that need addressing…..it is a symptom. Once you have learned this, they will no longer have control over you. You will have this tool at YOUR disposal for the rest of you life.

The doctor recommended that I always have a paper bag handy to help with the hyperventilating. It always works for me. I have one in the glove compartment of my car as we speak (as I type =) I have panic attacks while driving…

Hi,
I was a victim of those terrible attacks and it stopped as soon as I put this in motion:
1. First of all, put up the gloves cecause Panic Attacks are a nightmare and YOU CAN KILL IT !!!
2. Search into the WEB and understand what are those, how you get them and how to get rid of those.
3. Seek help with a MD using Zoloft or Xanax… its great. You will feel ok after 20 minutes.
4. Then kill the ghost of PANIC ATTACKS … it always happen out of the blue … and from there all the attacks will be based on the fear of having them again .. so when you see that Panic Ghost coming at you: look him in the eye and don’t fear, you won’t die and you won’t pass out! it’s only mental not physical …
4. Use a notebook to write all the symptoms so you can identify them.
5. Then when you feel like you are having the fear of experiencing one, just laugh and tell yourself: here it comes again to fool me … and cool down, try to relax … look down or just close your eyes until you gain control … always laugh and try to think of it like Casper … smaller than you, you are stronger and healthier … you CAN DO THIS.
6. Since its mental, be stronger than it !! NEVER let that Panic Nightmare rule your life !!!
