3 Ways You Can Understand Panic Attacks
Panic attacks are a fairly common problem in our society. Panic and anxiety disorders can cover a broad range from OCD to phobias and fears.
Are there any tips for panic attacks that you could use to manage the problem? Typical symptoms of a panic attack include a racing heart beat, sweaty palms, and heavy breathing. This is usually what we experience when we’re in danger, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that we feel at risk when we have a panic attack.
Here is some advice you can follow to help control panic attacks or symptoms of a nervous breakdown:
First, Breathing — Fast breathing is one of the prime indicators of a panic attack. Your blood stream will run low on carbon dioxide when this happens. This sort of breathing will only trigger other panic attack symptoms and escalate your anxiety. You can start to control this by paying attention to your breathing. Take long and slow breaths. Fully exhale all the air you breathe in. This will combat hyperventilation and can turn around a building panic attack.
Second, Interruption — Your mind will focus on the trigger when you have a panic attack. Focus on something else to interrupt the series of events that lead up to a panic attack. This may not seem like a fresh idea, but it is very useful. Try calling up a friend to talk about something enjoyable or funny. Or maybe you turn on the TV and watch a favorite show. Just take your focus off the panic attack and the trigger.
Third, Know Yourself — You can do even better, by really understanding your panic disorder. It might be speaking in public, driving, socializing, or is it something completely unique. The trigger is just the fist layer you will go through to resolve the problem. Keep digging away at the problem and you’ll find the core issue. Know yourself fully and you can be better prepared for future situations.
These three things can really help you move past panic attacks. You can do this! It may not be easy, but the results are worth it.
