Samuel was a thirty-five-year-old financial analyst who was sick of feeling depressed everyday of his life and fed up with his abusive and careless drinking behavior. Stated simply, he was tired of going through failed relationship after failed relationship due to his careless drinking, he was mad at himself for spending his hard-earned money on a worthless habit, he missed his old drive for doing various things he enjoyed, he was sick of feeling lethargic every morning, and he hated the hangovers he went through on a regular basis.

Moreover he was irritated with the many times he failed an alcohol test at his place of employment, he was fed up with paying for alcohol-related attorney fees, he was disgusted with how out-of-shape he was, he was bored with his drinking buddies, and he detested the fact that he had to go to court for his first DUI.

Above and beyond the visible alcohol-related health difficulties he was going through, almost certainly the worst part of his drinking regimen was the unreliable and fraudulent person he had become. In his heart of hearts he knew that he had been lying about his drinking behavior to his friends, family, and relatives and he also knew he had been less than honest with himself about the “beneficial” outcomes of drinking. Not only this but he rationalized wolfing down three or four drinks before going to social events and he also rationalized needing a few drinks as soon as he got up so that he could deal with the “tension” at his place of employment.

His Depression and His Hazardous and Abusive Drinking Lead to Important Life Changes

It was apparent that Samuel was sick of putting up with the negative outcomes of his depression and his excessive and careless drinking and at long last finally decided that something major had to change in his life. So he decided that he would refrain from drinking, develop a new circle of friends, start focusing on becoming a more healthy person, start exercising, involve himself in some worthwhile hobbies, and get professional counseling.

In brief, Samuel got to the point in his life during which he understood that he hit rock bottom and was now prepared to begin the gradual road that leads to recovery.

One of the ways that Samuel put his “plan” into action was by asking for a transfer at work. When his request was approved, he moved 700 miles away to a new part of the U.S.. If nothing else, this positively made making new friends and pals and distancing himself from his old pals simpler. Then he phoned a physician in his new city and made an appointment for a complete physical exam.

Samuel Meets With a Healthcare Professional About His Abusive and Excessive Drinking and His Depression

After meeting with the physician and taking a number of lab tests, it was decided that Samuel had made the unfortunate change from alcohol abuse to alcohol addiction and therefore was in need of alcohol detox and alcohol therapy. At this time, the healthcare practitioner made it a point to discuss the diverse signs of alcoholism, the symptoms of alcoholism, and information about long term effects of alcohol with Samuel.

The doctor then told Samuel that it was determined that he was clinically depressed and in need of counseling for this medical problem.

Samuel Decides to Build Up His Body by Working Out, Eating Wholesome Foods, Drinking Distilled Water, Vitamins and Minerals, and Living an Alcohol-Free Way of Life

Due to his readiness to follow through with the treatment program, after three weeks of inpatient rehabilitation, Samuel was ready to begin therapy on an outpatient basis. At this point in time, he began working at his new job and over the weeks began revitalizing his body by living an alcohol-free lifestyle, going to the gym, taking vitamins and minerals, eating wholesome foods, and drinking filtered water.

Samuel also addressed his spiritual concerns by joining the local Calvinist church and attending regular services.

After roughly four weeks of outpatient rehab during which time he never suffered through a relapse, Samuel stopped going to alcohol rehabilitation and instead started going four times per week to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Going to these meetings helped Samuel follow through with his alcohol-free lifestyle, they provided him with the support he required, and they served as a steady reminder of the adverse outcomes that are associated with abusive drinking.

After going to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings roughly six months Samuel felt that he was ready for a relationship and so he started dating Kelly, a young woman he met at church. It simply amazed Samuel how much more prepared he was for a dating relationship now that he had his abusive drinking under control. In point of fact it also astonished Samuel how much better life was now that he wasn’t under the control of his abusive drinking. Life was now enjoyable and loaded with potential that he could have never hoped for or brought to fruition when he was involved in abusive and careless drinking just a few short months ago.

A Success Story That is a Testament to the Significance of Alcohol Rehabilitation and the Power of Positive Change

Samuel’s success story is a tribute to the value of alcohol rehab and the power of positive thinking. As Samuel thought about his newfound self worth and motivation for involving himself in healthy, worthwhile activities, he was actually appreciative that he made up his mind to do something constructive about his excessive and unhealthy drinking rather than giving into his depression and into the lure of his dependency. The result: he is involved in a caring relationship, he has more energy now compared with any time in his adult life, he enjoys his new job responsibilities, his life now has a positive direction, and he is in charge of his life rather than letting himself deteriorate under the control of his alcohol dependency.
