Well what is it about airplanes that makes you uncomfortable? If you don’t trust the pilot, there isn’t much to worry about. Just about everything the plane does is automated. From taking off, cruising, even parts of landing are all done automatically without the pilot needing to do anything. Most of the time, the pilot is there for the ride just as you are. He is mostly only there to take control of the plane if there is an unnatural occurrence during the plane’s flight. If such a happening were to take place, it would be dealt with promptly and efficiently. You’d never even know something changed. Commercial airplane travel is still the safest method of long-distance travel. The planes that are built today are able to fly using only one engine, however, they are still equipped with two. Anytime a plane has a malfunction or error of some sort, the airline and plane manufacturers both work immediately to fix the problem to eliminate it from happening a second time no matter how small the problem was.
I hope this was helpful.

You didn’t name your fear (I assume you are not literally afraid of airplanes themselves) so I guess you are afraid of something going wrong and the airplane crashing?
Truthfully, it is a scary concept to fly. The way I dealt with it is just not to think about what is really happening. I think of it the same as getting into a bus. Get in, distract yourself during the flight, sleep if you can, and then presto, you are there and you get off.
When I got nervous about making a long flight, I talked to a friend who travels a lot on business and asked, isn’t he ever afraid of flying? He said no, he doesn’t even think about it. He said, "I can’t think about it, or I wouldn’t be able to do my job." He said, go, get on the plane, do some work on the computer, take a nap, do some reading, and get off the plane.
He has flown thousands of times and never was in a crash. I know many people who fly regularly and never had any serious problems. I also have to have faith, because my husband frequently has to fly on business, sometimes on very long flights.
There is no point in worrying about something going wrong. So just try to think of it as any other kind of transportation. And also ponder all the wonders you could never see if you couldn’t fly.

Gotta have faith. When your number comes up, it comes up, whether you are on a plane or sitting in your living room.
Airplanes are the safest form of transportation. Why do you think you always hear about plane crashes but don’t hear about most car crashes?
