How do I cope with my fear of flying?
How can I cope? Last time I was in an airplane I was nervous, sweaty, sick, lightheaded, and paranoid. Now I have to fly to Father’s for holiday. How do I cope with my fear of flying?
For me, it basically helps to say "yes, I’m feeling scared, and there it is. And now I’m going to ___." Just let the fear be there, you don’t need to fight the fact that you’re feeling afraid/nervous/sweaty/sick. You don’t need to solve the fear, you can just do whatever you were going to do (in this case, flying on a plane) whether the fear is there or not.
Fear does a whole lot less if you just let it talk, and if you consciously choose to be in charge of your actions anyway. Flying while you are afraid is called being courageous!
If you like to do things that calm you, you can do that, too. Music is the best. Also it helps to look at those pretty white clouds out the window. And/or to envision yourself as a badassed warrior going into battle. Good luck!
