Symptoms of Panic Attack

Panic attacks are defined as sudden intense episodes of extreme physical, emotional and mental panic or terror, usually focused around an abnormal fear. Panic attacks are usually brief, and may last less than ten minutes, although some of the symptoms may persist for a longer time. Despite their frightening nature, sufferers need to be reassured that panic attacks themselves do not lead to heart attacks, loss of control, mental illness or death.

Treating Panic Attacks – What You Need To Do

When you experience panic attacks, you will have to seek help. It is not quite possible for you to fight this problem all by yourself. You will need to call a professional from health care and receive help for panic attacks.

The first thing you need to do in seeking panic help is to get an appointment with the medical doctor who generally treats you. Your doctor will enquire about the symptoms that you are experiencing and also the frequency of the panic attacks. The doctor will gather information regarding your psychological symptoms. You will also need to inform the doctor about your physical symptoms when you are experiencing these panic attacks. It is very important to inform the doctor in detail about your physical reactions to the attacks. This will let the doctor know what the cause of your panic attacks is. It may be due to psychological or medical disorder.

Make a list of all the medications you use for your doctor. Some medications have side effects which may cause nervousness, restlessness, anxiety and other symptoms of panic attacks. It is therefore necessary for your doctor to get to know what the cause of your attack is.

You may need to take a blood test if your doctor has a feeling that it may be due to a medical problem. If certain medications are causing your attacks, your doctor may advise you to change your medications.

You will have to try out a few medications before your psychiatrist realizes what works best for you. It may take a month to be able to see the whole effects of this medication.

Your psychiatrist or your medical doctor will refer you to a therapist for getting help for these attacks. The therapist will work with you and find out the level of anxiety that you will feel that causes the panic attacks. He will also identify you triggers, teach you to calm down your mind and body and also work through situations that trigger panic attacks.

For example, is it possible to have a panic attack with just the mental aspect (deep sense of dread, fear of death, derealization, etc,) without physical symptoms such as shaking, and increased heartbeat?

then it would not be considered a "panic" attack. in clinical terms, when one panics, they are having the latter symptoms you stated.

Panic attacks and anxiety attacks can come on at a moments notice and can be one of the most terrifying experiences for even the strongest person. Thankfully though, where there is a problem in today’s world, whether it be mental or physical, we adapt ways to help cope and find a solution to it. So in the case of panic attacks tips, there is a wealth of information available to help cope with and live with your anxiety and panic.

So what can you do?

the severity of panic attacks can differ from person to person. Some people can have minor symptoms while others can have major symptoms causing the anxiety to literally take over. Fortunately though, there are things you can do to help cope with attacks which ever end of the scale you currently fall into. The biggest thing to remember though is to seek help and treatment as soon as possible so that the anxiety doesn’t run out of control which can happen quickly.

Now the biggest way you can actually do to prevent an attack is to find out what causes them to come on in the first place. This will be an easier exercise for some but harder for others, but is vital. By finding out the route problem and the reason panic attacks come on you can act to help prevent them. So if a phobia of some sort kicks off the symptoms or a situation such as a large crowd, by knowing, you can then act and avoid the certain situation that brings an attack on allowing you to prevent the attack happening.

But, this isn’t always the case and some things cannot be avoided. If you find you cannot avoid the source you can take steps to try and control the attack. To help control this you can try and take your mind elsewhere quickly. This can be a hard skill to master but helps anxiety and panic attack sufferers across the globe do it everyday. Some like to take a cold drink of water or have hot cup of tea allowing the mind to focus on something different. Others go to extremes like running 100 yards or whistling their favourite song. These small panic attacks tips can seriously take your mind elsewhere allowing you to squash the feeling and attack when it comes on.

As with everything though, the best way is always to try and treat the problem and thankfully anxiety and panic attacks can be treated and cured. There are many ways to do this and however severe your problem may be, there is a way out!
