Stop Anxiety Attacks – 5 Practical Tips

I have suffered from anxiety attacks for years, and I have found some tips during that time that have helped me stop them whenever I felt I am going to have one soon. I know how frightening anxiety attacks are, that is why I am going to share these tips with you today.

Before coming to the tips though, I want you to remember that anxiety attacks are not medically harmful or dangerous, even though you may feel all those symptoms like shortness of breath, your heart may speed up, dizziness, and many more.

5 Practical Tips to Stop Anxiety Attacks

Whenever you feel an anxiety attack coming, distract yourself. Watch funny movies on TV; play your favourite music and dance to it; get out and take a walk; call a friend and talk to him about anything but your anxiety attack. It is important to do something you enjoy to get your mind off the anxiety attack. Stay calm and try not to breathe too rapidly (hyperventilating), it may cause an unbalance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in your blood, making you feel dizzy. If you catch yourself breathing too rapidly, get a paper bag and breathe into the bag. This will balance your oxygen levels again. This is a simple but effective tip: Splash your face with cool water. This will help you calm down. Learn a muscle relaxation technique like yoga or progressive muscle relaxation. It will help you relax your muscles. If muscles are relaxed, they don’t need as much oxygen as when they are tensed. This will also slow down your breathing, your heart rate, and your blood pressure will go down. Get proper treatment. This is the most important tip. All these tips won’t help you cure your anxiety attacks; they will just stop them for a while. It is extremely important to understand how anxiety attacks happen and how you can cure them forever. Panic attacks and depression can occur simultaneously and even go hand-in-hand. This makes it really difficult for the individual to lead the life normally and undertake tasks required for daily routine.

What Are The Consequences Of Chronic Insomnia ?

Chronic insomnia is the common term for a lack of sleep for long periods of time and can be caused by medical conditions, stress, or an undiagnosed mental disorder.  Chronic insomnia can have a number of negative effects on the health of the person and can become worse as time goes by.  Getting an adequate amount of sleep each night is very important for a person’s general health and chronic insomnia can be fatal if left untreated for a long period of time.

Effects On The Body

Chronic insomnia can have a harmful effect on different areas of the person’s health and the complications associated with the condition will increase in severity the longer the insomnia lasts.  The body may experience fatigue, pale skin, nausea, tremors, weight fluctuations, and an ineffective immune system.Blurred vision, dark circles, twitching muscles and even color blindness are the problems from which one can suffer.

Chronic insomnia can also affect the brain, causing dizzy spells, fainting, headaches, irritability, and slurred speech.  If the insomnia continues without treatment, the person may also begin to experience memory loss, confusion, inability to concentrate, hallucinations, and depression.  If the chronic insomnia continues for a long period of time, psychotic episodes may occur and there is no guarantee that they will stop once the person returns to their normal sleeping pattern.

The inability to sleep for significant periods of time can result in difficulty thinking, lack of emotional control, delayed reaction times, and inability to handle stress effectively.A person suffering from chronic insomnia can have fatal effects of it.  Researchers have found that rats that are deprived of sleep will die within three weeks of the experiment because the bodies can not handle chronic insomnia for long time periods.

Who Is Affected By The Condition?

Naturally occurring cases of chronic insomnia often affect senior citizens during their life time.  As people become older, they become more vulnerable to the disorders that can result in chronic insomnia.  Experts estimate that as many as 50% of the people over the age of 64 suffer from mild to severe insomnia.  In many cases, these people will require some type of insomnia medication to return to their regular sleeping patterns.

Young individuals have less cahnces of developing chronic insomnia but they are generally affected by the condition more.Chronic insomnia makes an individual to feel as drunkenness, slurred speech, imbalance and dizziness.  The condition can affect the body in many different ways and can be a very unpleasant experience.

Natural Remedies For Anxiety Attacks

It is an extremely horrifying feeling to have panic (Anxiety) attacks. There are many of us (yes folks, me too) who have anxiety, never mind the thousands more who have the added weight of anxiety attacks.

Approximately fourty years ago, it was not very common and many doctors were baffled by the symptoms of anxiety attacks, now in this day it is commonly known as anxiety disorder. Back then though, it was not common at all.

Now if you are one of the lucky ones who don’t suffer from these terrible anxiety attacks, then I am sorry to say people, you are NOT considered normal. You may in fact be sitting there reading this and laughing or snickering to yourself but this is no laughing matter.

The reason why we have these attacks is simple, we (the entire human race) have forgotten how to decompress properly. We have become so goal oriented that we have forgotten what real relaxation entails. Even when we go on vacations, we bring our laptops and our phones with us, we never truly take the time to stop and rest.

You need to do this now and then. You need to stop and center yourself and become more harmonic with your inner self. There are some ways in which you can fight back and loosen the hold that these anxiety attacks have over you. You have to learn that YES you can control them. It doesn’t matter if you have had these attacks for 3 months or 30 years.

These are a few different home remedies that I have found to be very helpful during my own personal suffering and my on-going battle with anxiety attacks:

1.St John’s Wort: Try to start taking these capsules which you can find in any drug store or homeopathic store. Once your body has a steady level of this St john’s wort circulating throughout your system, it will begin to reduce the amount of panic attacks and/or the intensity of the attacks themselves.

2.Cold Water: O,K people, this will sound a little crazy but bear with me, I laughed the first time I was told about this but then I tried it and it really worked! When you feel that you are beginning an attack and you are not handling it as well as you usually do, get to the nearest sink and run the cold water. Then put your wrist under the steady flow of cold water, keep alternating wrists and do this until you feel you are beginning to gain control again. You may be laughing but for some unknown reason it really works!

3.Meditation: This is a very important exercise that you should try to do at least once every day. This will be your time to decompress. Find yourself a quiet spot, inside your home or outside, wherever you feel most relaxed. Then you take 15 to 20 minutes and close your eyes, concentrate on your breathing.

Just this little bit of time will make a lot of difference and you will begin to see a difference in your inner strength and how you handle your attacks, I am not saying that this will stop them but it just might give you the upper hand.

Humans experience anxiety as a natural part of life. The world is a busy place with activities occurring all around us.
